Name that Toon!...Wednesday June 25th, 2008

Hey Hey Hey!

I don't know if it's just me but I tried to watch a new cartoon the other day on Saturday morning and it was horrible. I feel like they don't make cartoons the way they used to.I remeber when I was younger I would rush home after school to watch cartoons ( I was a latch key kid). I also woke up bright and early on Saturday to watch all of the cartoons that came on as well. It seems like kids watch more reality TV then cartoon nowadays. Today I want to get a bit nostalgic and bring back some good cartoons from back in the days. Name that Toon!

Chilly Willy

Woody Woodpecker

Justice League

Battle of the Planets

Mr. T

Voltron

GI Joe

Aquaman

Laff A Lympics

Davey and Goliath

This was the only cartoon that would be on early Christmas Morning

Jem

Transformers

Flintstones

I could go on forever and post so many!

Post a comment and name the cartoons that you like.

Myspace vs. Facebook/ Euro 2008

What up?!

Since I did not post a blog yesterday, I figured that I would do a double blog for today. For a while a I have wanted to write this particular blog due to the nature of the several social networking site that are on the web these days. Two major ones that most people are suscribed to are Myspace and Facebook. I remember when about 5 to 6 years ago when Friendster and Black Planet were there big social networking site. Then Myspace evolved in which blew them out the water. Now it seems to be a competition between Myspace and Facebook.

I attended a wedding over the past weekend in which the age group was bascially 30 and up. I was surprised that the main conversations that were taking place at the wedding was about Facebook. I had to inject the conversation at one point and say this is crazy; we are at wedding and everyone here is talk about facebook. Everyone started to laugh.

I feel both sites are dynamic and I give kudos to Tom Anderson and Mark Zuckerberg for coming up with the ideas for this site. You definitely got people hooked on thses sites. It funny because I will e-mail some people I know to their google or aol e-mail and accounts and not hear from them and send the same message to them on facebook or myspace and get a quicker response from them from the myspace or facebook page.

Even when you go out now you will see people on their blackberries or I phone in a bar or club that are constantly checking thier messages. It's phenominal.

I have had a myspace page for a few years. I basically did for my business and I can definitlely say that I got some great business connections from it. I just signed on to facebook at the beginning of this year. It's been amazing how many people that I have not spoke to in a years that I caught up with. I have spoke to people that I went to school with in 3rd grade.

I wanted to go over of what I feel some are some of the pros and cons of each site

Myspace.com

Pros
-Great for connecting with people all over the world
-Listen to all types of music
-Blog posts
-Great for musicians and people to fan base and followers
-Ability to put different modules on your pages

Cons
-Spam mail
-Random Solicitations
-Some Peoples Pages are a eye sore because they are too busy
-Time it takes to upload some pages because there is so much stuff on some pages
-Random people that add you that are trying to find a jump off
-Can be addictive

FaceBook

Pros
-Connecting with people form your past.
-Applications (i.e. Scrabulous, Scramble,ect...If you have some skills challenge me to a game!)
-Easy to set up you page
-Cleaner looking pagers
-Mutual friend Module

Cons
-Too Many Applications
-People knowing when you write a message or do some on your page
-Can be addictive
-That people can post on your wall without your approval
-Poeple can upload and tag pictures of you without your approval
-Fun Wall make you page too big

In a conversation I was having last night at Supernodes Netwroking group that co-host, an interesting quote was brought up about the two sites by my good peoples Eric Rosenthal.

"Facebook is who you are, Myspace is who you want to be."

Things that make you go hmmmmmm....

Post a comment and let me know you pros and cons of these sites or just your thoughts on them.

It's kinda funny!

For those who may not know, the Euro 2008 Football ( Soccer) Championships started this past weekend. For those who like football you will have a great 3 weeks of some solid matches. This is taking place in Switzerland and Austria. This is a teaser of what to expect for the World Cup 2010 in South Africa, minus the representation of teams from five other continents. There are some strong teams in the contention for winning like Germany, Italy, Holland, Croatia, France and Portugal. I am going with the defending champs Portugal to repeat.
They have a solid team, good coach and arguably the best player in the world Cristiano Ronaldo. He plays on the English Premier League Club Manchester United, that just won both the English Premier League and the Champions League this year.

Here is some footage on Cristiano Ronaldo.

These are all the goals he scored this season

Here's some extra footage. This looks like a European MTV Cribs with just instrumentals.

If you are into soccer you should check out a dynamic site called www.soccerfantasypro.com
You can soccer fantasy teams and read some great soccer blogs. Check it out. You may see some blogs post from the Halremite on there soon! Kudos to Lilly Tovbin and Patrick Mulrenin for creating this site!

I don't listen to White Music. I don't listen to Black Music. Stop fronting you listen to it all!!!!

What up ya'll?

Today I want to touch on a topic of music. In my walk of life music has played a major roll in it. I listen to all types of music ranging from Hip-hop, R&B, Jazz, Reggae, Calypso, Soca, Pop, Rock and Roll, Heavy Metal, House, Blues, 80's, ect. I have been fortunate to go to see concerts of artists such as Michael Jackson, Sting, Depeche Mode, Billy Joel, Elton John, Kiss, Motley Crue, Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, The Might Sparrow, Jam Band, Buju Banton, Bounty Killa, Beenie Man, John Mayer, Maroon 5, N'sych, Van Halen LL Cool J, Bobby Brown, Wu-Tang, Black Star, Roots, and many others.

It has definitely made me there person who I am, and I am proud of it. In my perspective music is universal. You can vibe to music even you don't understand the language. I have a friend named Jason, who is a one of the biggest artists in Sweden, he goes by the name of Timbucktu. He rhymes in Swedish and I don't understand the what he's is saying but I do like his music and had it in my Cd rotation for quite some time. He even came over to the States and performed about a year ago and it was a great concert. Good music is good music. Period!

When I was twelve I went to a Depeche Mode concert in Nice, France. It amazed me to see how many people loved the music and most of the people did not understand the the lyrics. That was a true breakthough for me to understand music is universal. It's a vibe.

On numerous occaisions I hear black people say I don't listen to white music and vice versa, white people saying the same about black music. I think it's bulls@*t and you are in the closet about your music preferences.

If you grew up in the 80's like I did, MTV played mostly music that had "white" artists. The Black artists that came on there were Michael Jackson, Prince, Rockwell, Herbie Hancock, and maybe Run DMC. And those videos came on a dime a dozen So if grew up during that time frame , watched MTV alot, are black and say that you don't like "white" music. STOP Fronting!

Not too long ago I went to a club called Element in NYC and went for the dancehall, reggae and soca night. The crowd was predominantly Black. The DJ at one point played p a medley of songs that consisted of Kelly Clarkson "Since You've Been Gone", Sara Barreilles "Love Song" (corny song but I can't front I like it! lol), Berlin "Take My Breath Away". A good amount of the crowd, that consisted of females, got excited when these songs came on and knew the words verbatum. Now, I have been to bars that consisted of predominately white people and Kelly Clarkson came on and did not see people get as excited they people did at the reggae night. As a matter of fact, the white popele got amped when 50 Cent, Kanye and Lil Wayne came on and they knew all of the words. Some of sogs they knew the lyrics better than I did (Note: if it's old school I know all of the lyric buts the lyrics the recent hip hop don't register in my hippocampus. that's what processes memory in your brain). That may have to do with the state of hip-hop today but that's an entirely differernt blogworthy topic that I will discuss soon.

When I go to Jazz clubs, Hip-Hop concerts, and reggae concerts the majority of people that attend are white people. So I say to white people who deny liking black music, STOP FRONTING that you don't like "black" music!

The point I am trying to get across is what is "white" music and what is "black" music.

The question I would like to pose is : Does music have a color?

What makes music Black or White? Or any color at that?

The last time I went to a music store I did not see a sign for "black" music, nor "white" music.

Do we dictate the what type of music it is from the color of the artists' skin? I feel that's a mistake to claim music like that.

I feel music can be based of a culture but not the color of the skin.

I remember when New Kids on the Block first came out with the song "Please don't go Girl"
A lot of Black people thought it was New Edition or another Black group singing it. When they found out it was a white group people were shocked.

Rock and Roll and Blues music was pioneered by many black artists and musicians.

My point is music is universal there are no color barriers to it. Listen to it and like it! No need to front on something that you like.

Please post your thoughts on this topic. Harlemite would like to know your thoughts on this.

Here are a couple music videos to check out.

Wedesday June 4th, 2008-Victory for Obama

Good day everyone.

The day has finally arrived. The democratic nomination has been announced. It's a boy. lol! Barack Obama will be democratic candidate that will be running against McCain for the presidential election in November. It seems like this has been going on for eons and it can now be put to rest. Congrats to Obama. He earned a well, hard fought victory. No one can deny him of that. He just wrote a monumental new page in United States history.

Here are some clips from his victory speech.

Here's part II

I feel he really is great public speaker. Obama keeps your attention as well as get his point across in a eloquent manner.

The one thing that surprises me is how Hillary Clinton did not concede to Obama winning the nomination. I have been listening to talk radio and reading comments about that throughout the day and alot of the conversations have focused on this. There were comments about her being a racist, being scorned, and just a plain sore loser.Other sources I have been coomunicating with are saying that she won't do so because then she can't ask for anymore funding for campaigning anyome. It beats me. I don't think that she is a racist at all. I do feel she a tough competitor and will go to the extreme to enable herself to get an edge. These tactics she used are not something that have never been done. They are actually done all of the time. I feel that some of this did get blown up because she is white woman competitng against a black man; which was a wet dream for the media to magnify anything controversial. At the end of the day she could have acknowledged him winning the nomination.

Please post a comment on your thoughts on this historical campaign. Do you think Hillary Clinton with take the Vice President candidancy? There is no way that you don't have any thoughts on this.

Here's throwback video for you that fits the nature of a heated battle
