Freestyle Fridays! Friday May 30th, 2008

What up good peoples?!

My mind is all over the place today so you will definitely get a potpourri of things today. I can't believe we are basically halfway through this year already. I have not even got through half of my goals for this year. But hey, there here's six months and champions always finish strong! :) Hopefully you all have gotten through at least half of your list of goals. If not, good luck in the second half of the year.

I am into politics. I was a Political Science and International Relations majors in college but I can not lie; I can't wait for this democratic nominaton race to be over with. It is absolutley important to our country and it is a historical event taking place but it is on the news like it's the only thing going on in this country. It seems evident that Obama will win the nomination so Hillary just give it up so we can move on. I have no love loss for you but give it up at this point. I fully respect not giving up until the end but even if people are selling your campaign parphenalia for 50% off that does say something. This is way too drawn out.

The War in Iraq I am tired of that as well. This is not serving any purpose for our country except a death toll rate for soldiers and ler's keep it real, for those that come back maimed the government won't give two sh*$s about them. Let's get the F*#k out of dodge and call it a day! This is 2K version of Vietnam but with executive, personal monetary ties involved with this one. If it is oil that is really the issue on this, there many other countries in the world that have a plethora of oil in other countries such as Trinidad and Brazil just to name a couple. Befriend them or spend the money that we are using to fight this war and change to solar or other types of elemets for us to use to function on instead of oil. It will probably be cheaper to do that than continue to fight this war. Does our government really care about the freedom others in these countries???

Just something to think about.

Let me know your thoughts. Please post a comment.

Friday May 23rd, 2008-Grilling and Chilling

Thank God It's Friday.

For those who reside it the U.S. I know you are looking forward to this long weekend in celebrating Memorial Day. Everyone will be taking out the BBQ grills as we set upon reaching the illustrious season of summer. If there is nice weather in your region this weekend, I am sure many of you will be headed to the beach. A lot of your may be out of town already chilling on a white sand beach.

Well if you plan to take out the grill this weekend. Here are some BBQ tips for you.

BBQ with the Pastor

Here's something for you vegetarians

This is one about BBQ grills. This is funny!

Here's the last one- Shrimp on the Barbie

For those that really know me you know I get down on the grill. Here are a few tips that I humbly suggest to those that plan to BBQ this weekend and during the course of the summer.

Harlemite's basic BBQ tips

If you are cooking meats make sure to soak them in vinegar or lemon juice. This gets rid of any germs that are on the meats. I heard of some people washing their meats (Pause! lol!) with soap and water. I don't know about that one...

If you want to save some time on cooking the meats on the grill, I suggest pot boiling the meat (in particular for chicken) before placing it on the grill. That way it has already been cooked. It really does not take too long to do this. You can also season the water that you boil tho give the meat flavor.

Seasoning is the key to a great BBQ food. Season the meat before cooking and let the seasoning soak in so it gets the full flavor before cooking it. Every BBQ chef has their own secret seasonings. You learn by just experimenting and practice. You can even derive your own BBQ sauce by doing so.

Those are just some basic tips. I will get more in depth and detail as we draw closer to summer.

Please post comment on any BBQ tips or advice that you have.

Thursday May 22nd, 2008-Useful Tips

Hey Hey Hey!

Today I decided I am going to pass on some useful tips that I have come across. Perhaps they may be helpful for you, a friend, or a loved one.

Five Things You Never Knew Your Cell Phone Could Do

For all the folks with cell phones. (This should be printed and kept in your car, purse, and wallet. Good information to have with you.)

There are a few things that can be done in times of grave emergencies.
Your mobile phone can actually be a life saver or an emergency tool for survival.

Check out the things that you can do with it:

FIRST

Emergency
The Emergency Number worldwide for Mobile is 112. If you find
Yourself out of the coverage area of your mobile network and there is an
Emergency, dial 112 and the mobile will search any existing network to
Establish the emergency number for you, and interestingly, this number 112
can be dialed even if the keypad is locked. Try it out.

SECOND
Have you locked your keys in the car?
Does your car have remote keyless entry? This may come in handy someday. Good reason to own a cell phone:

If you lock your keys In the car and the spare keys are at home, call someone at home on their cell phone from your cell phone. Hold your cell phone about a foot from your car door and have the person at your home press the unlock button, holding it near the mobile phone on their end. Your car will unlock. Saves someone from having to drive your keys to you. Distance is no object. You could be hundreds of miles away, and if you can reach someone who has the other 'remote' for your car, you can unlock the doors (or the trunk).
Editor's Note: It works fine! We tried it out and it unlocked
Our car over a cell phone!'
THIRD
Hidden Battery Power
Imagine your cell battery is very low. To activate, press the keys *3370#. Your cell phone will restart with this reserve and the instrument will show a 50% increase in battery. This reserve will get charged when you charge your cell phone next time.

FOURTH
How to disable a STOLEN mobile phone?
To check your Mobile phone's serial number, key in the following Digits on your phone: *#06#. A 15-digit code will appear on the screen. This number is unique to your handset. Write it down and keep it somewhere safe.

When your phone get stolen, you can phone your service provider and give them this code. They will then be able to block your handset so even if the thief changes the SIM card, your phone will be totally useless. You probably won't get your phone back, but at least you know that whoever stole it can't use/sell it either. If everybody does this, there would be no point in people stealing mobile phones.

And Finally....
FIFTH
Free Directory Service for Cells
Cell phone companies are charging us $1.00 to $1.75 or more for 411 information calls when they don't have to. Most of us do not carry a telephone directory in our vehicle, which makes this situation even more of a problem. When you need to use the 411 information option, simply dial: (800) FREE411, or (800) 373-3411 without incurring any charge at all. Program this into your cell phone now.
This is sponsered by MacDonalds.

Here are some energy saving tips.

Secret Service and More Hoodrat Stuff-Thursday May 15th, 2008

What up everyone?

I have been reading some disturbing articles that deal with the actions some of supervisors in the Secret Service. In a couple of articles sourced from the New York Times basically detailed how secret service supervisors were exchanging e-mails that were racially discriminatory towards blacks. One of e-mails circulating was about missle hitting an airplane Reverand Jesse Jackson and his wife were travelling on and the conclusion e-mail stated "it certainly would not be a great loss and it probably would not be a accident either." This also preceeds an incident of a noose being found in a room used by a black instructor in a secret service facility in Beltsville, Maryland a month ago.

( Soruce link: http://www.nytimes.com/2008/05/10/washington/10inquire.html?partner=rssnyt&emc=rss)

Another article found the leader of Barack Obama's secret service, Victor Erevia linked to sending around e-mails of inappropriate jokes towards Blacks and Native Americans. Even though it is noted that he was not the author of the jokes but he was passing them around to his colleagues.
( Source Link: http://www.nytimes.com/2008/05/15/washington/15inquire.html?partner=rssnyt&emc=rss)

In reading these articles and observing the current presidential race, the reality has expanded of us having a black president in office next term. It also makes you think who really has Obama's back? Put yourself in his shoes. Would you feel comfortable if you are reading articles of this magnitude about the people that are supposed to be protecting the lives of you and your family? You are already concerned about some of the lunatics and haters out there that are posing threats to your life. Now you have to wonder about the people that are supposed to be protecting you them. Are they really going to be doing a optimum job in doing so? At the same time you are supposed to be leading your country, and be fully focused and expected to do a superb job in doing that. That is not an easy path to walk to say the least.

Please post a comments on your thoughts on this matter.

If you been constantly reading the my blogs , a couple of weeks ago I post showed a clip about this 7 year old kid named Latarian Milton taking his grandmother's car for a joyride because he was mad at his mother and wanted to do some "hoodrat" stuff. If you did not see it here is the clip again.

Well since then, there is an update on Latarian. He has been taken in for a mental health evaluation after recently beating up his grandmother in front of a Wal-Mart because she refused to buy him some chicken wings last Monday. Latarian's grandmother, Vikkita Stratford relates the source of his behavior due to the allegeded verbal and physical abusive nature of his parents that Latarian observes.

It is also noted that Grandma Stratford also sleeps with the keys to the rental car that she has while her damaged Dodge Durango gets fixed, because Latarian had inquired about taking that for a ride as well.

If you click this link you can watch the full story from the local news from their area.

http://www.wpbf.com/video/16256781/index.html

You can also find extra clips of the original story on it with him apologizing and scenes of him walking home with his grandmother. You can see the love there but he clearly needs some help.

I really hope works out for them. God Bless them!

Shoutouts to E. Katz and Ebony Downtin on this one!

Commercial not Underground- Wednesday May 14th ,2008

Hey Good Peoples!

I was talking to some folks last weekend about how much commercials affect our lives. Anywhere you go there is some sort of Ad or commercial selling a product. There is no way of getting away from it. Nowadays, even when you get a bill in the mail there is an ad for something else in that. You look at an event like the Superbowl where people get hyped just to watch the commercials. It is probably the only event known to date where some people are more anxious to get to the commercial break rather than actually wanting to see the program itself.

I feel there are some really brilliant commercials that have been made. Some that people will talk about for years like it was a hit television series. Others make you wonder who approved spending money on making the commercial, and why would you even air this on TV after seeing the final product. They should simply be called NOT made for television. Strictly rubbish! I am going to give you some tips on making a good commercial.

Harlemite's Key Factors in creating a good commercial

1) Concept-If you concept is tight people get caught up in the commercial and even if they don't know about your product before they will at least know the name. That is a a step one in establishing the brand of the product ( i.e. Giego)

2)Delivery- It should be short and concise. Keep it simple. You only have 30 to 60 seconds so creating something complex is not going to work. You want to spoon feed the consumer. You don't want them to think or figure out what they are watching but for them to enjoy it. The average viewer is watching TV to relax not to think. I know that may sound sad, but it is what it is. You have to treat them like dummies.

3)Music- A catchy song, jingle, or instumental can also hook a consumer. They can always stick in someone's head. Familiar songs that are hits can also be a safe way to go.

4)Punchline- If you have a funny or clever punchline or phrase that can be paramount having a great commercial. Even the corny punchlines can work sometimes.

5)Character- Sometimes developing a good charater or image can work as well. With that I feel you have to have game plan set up to do multiple commericals.

It is important to be original and think out the box when creating a commercial. It's the risk you have to take. If any companies need help in achieving this I am a consultant for hire! Help Me Help You! lol.

Here are some commercials for you to look at.

This is a prime example of using a character to establish your brand.

It worked!

This s a brilliant Ad campaign

It used ordinary people and just explained facts.

Here's a classic one that had a catchy saying in it.

Everyone loved this commercial

Here's another classic commercial that a character was developed for it.

This was simple and to the point.

Very effective!

This is corny but everyone remembers the catchy phrase.

Another corny but catchy one.

If you were an 80's kid you remebered that one.

Here is one more catchy one for you.

I am sure you ate a bunch of these! lol

Here are some funny ones

Pretty simple and made you laugh.

Please post a comment on what commercials you think are good.

New York State of Mind- Tuesday May 13th, 2008

Good morning!

After having a spontaneous, fun evening last night in NYC (Shoutouts to Mike Dillon , Phil, Kevin from the Village Pourhouse, Steve Smith of the New York Giants, and Joe Hanagan of the Washington Nationals, and the people over at Johnny Utah's) I woke up this morning in a true New York State of Mind. I have been fortunate to travel to many different cities in the world and have had some great times but there is no where else that has a place in my heart like the Big Apple. Many times there has been nothing going on and then suddenly you have this amazing night out on the town. There is no other place where you can witness or experience some of the most zaniest events. Better yet, even be able leave your house at 1:00 in the morning and have a quality choice of foods you would like to eat and a variety of places to go hang out at. Even though times have changed in New York City, there is no place like it. It's amazing the amount of culture that is here. People truly take that for granted. I lived in LA about five years ago for a year, and when I came back I realized how much miss about it and took for granted.

Today I am giving a homage to New York City.

You know I have to hit you with some Harlem Flavor

The Apollo

A classic landmark

The Mecca of all Street Basketball Courts Rucker Park.

The Polo Grounds is where some blacktop dreams emerged.

You never know what you will encouter on a New York City Subway

Now that is what you call zany!

Time Square will always have some interesting going on as well

If you watch Howard Stern you proably have seen the Naked Cowboy before.

Or what may happen at party

A night a Pacha.

It was always beautiful to come into town and seeing these lit up.

RIP to those who lost their lives in the attacks.

There's nothing like being Champions

Summer is quickly approaching and alot of people are hitting the gym to drop those winter pounds to fit the summer clothes properly. You are trying to turn the 2 pack into a 6 pack in 30 days.

Please keep in mind exercising does not just make you look good, but also feel good. It should be something that you make a part of your lifestyle. It helps keep your mind clear and also helps release stress from the body. No matter how busy your schedule is , you can afford to take 30 minutes out of your day to exercise.

Besides starving yourself or taking HGH, here are some interesting ways to to get yourself into shape in before the summetime.

Here is a good abdominal exercise workout with a exercise ball.

Weights are good as well

Boxing is also a good workout.

Probably the rest of the Pacers used the same off season workout a few years ago when they had the fight against the Pistons! LOL!

Yoga is also good for the body, mind, and spirit.

It's one of the oldest exercise traditions in our world.

Speaking of old, here is a clip from one of the old school exercise experts in the U.S.

Richard Simmons has been around forever!

Running is also a great exercise but that would be a boring clip to include.

Oh, of you have some overweight pets get them in shape too!

The Motivation, The Inspiration- Thursday May 8th, 2008

Hey Everyone,

I hope you are a having a great day so far. In life, there is always source that motivates us to achieve our goals or aspirations. For some people it is their diety, parents, a teacher, music, friend, book, movie, athelete, or speech. The great thing about it is that it can be all of those things and even more that can motivate and inspire you. I feel very lucky to have good people around me that inspire and motivate me. It's great to have a group of people that can do that. Some people can be inspiring by just observing things that they accomplish. Others it can be by the things they say; i.e.-a coach giving a halftime speech. When you are at a low and you get that inspiring speech and it can do wonders for you to bring you back up to be positive and victorious. Everyone can use a coach in their life no matter what your profession or plight in life you have.

My mother is someone through words and actions always motivates and inspires me. I am also inspired by parts of movies and speeches.

Here are some motivational/inspirational clipsto look at.

Please post what you inspire and motivates you. It may be really helpful to someone

Super Tuesday May 6th, 2008

Hey Good Peoples.

Well we have another super tuesday in the democratic party. Clinton and Obama go head to head in North Carolina and Indiana. Most people will probably think that Clinton may have both of these states in the bag. I predict it will be a split. I think Obama will win North Carolina. It may be close but he will edge it out. Clinton will blow him out in Indiana. We'll see if the Harlemite prediction will be correct. Of course I will let you tomorrow.

This campaign process seems like it has been going on for ages. It definitely has had it's moments and will clearly be the most historical election in the United States history.

Post a comment and let me know your thoughts on this and what you would like to see happen in the United States in the upcomng years.

Here was a brilliant speech by Barack Obama if have not already seen this:

TEACH THE BABIES-Thursday May 1st.

MayDay MayDay! Harlemite coming in. I hope all is well. I dont know about the rest of the world but it's cold as hell for it to be the first of May in New York.

Today I want to talk about the state of the children in our society. Every day I look around and it seems like the attitude and actions of children is getting worse. Maybe it's me getting older ( I doubt it) but the behavior is has gotten to an all time high for kids acting bad. The language, demeanor and disrespect for them themselves and those around them is poposterous. This emcompasses all races, creeds and ethnicities. I am far from a conserverative but even some of the itmes that I see little girls wearing these days are outdoing what their own mother is weraing who is walking with them. Part of it is that we have young parents, that are actually still kids, raising kids. Another part of it is our community. As a community we have become indifferent to this situation. It is scary to think what the next generation will evolve into with the way it is looking now. I get tired of people putting full blame the music that the kids are listening to now. It's not helping the situation but it is not the direct cause. If you really want to look at it from a logical stand point are these young kids allowing the music to get played on the radio? No, it is grown people that a are allowing it to get played on the radio, put on television , and sold in stores. The grown people are getting paid and making money for that to happen. Even when I was growing up there was music that was explicit and bad things going on in society but I was taught right from wrong from family members, teachers, and people in my neighborhood. More importantly I was taught how to critically think about things. People take everything for face value these days and rarely question anything.

As the African Proverb says "It takes a whole village to raise a child", we must heed this statement. It can be as simple as telling a child something they are not supposed to do and teach them the right way to do it, or actually being a mentor to a kid. You never know the one person you help may be our next president, cancer curing scientist, or Nobel Prize winner. Nothing changes unless you take action for it to change. The time is now for change.

Here some some things that are have watched that I find absolutely absurd:

The crazy thing about this story to me unfortunately is not that this kid at such a young age took a car for a joy ride, but his explaination behind doing it.

I can safely say his grandmother will not be buying him Grand Theft Auto this week.

This clearly is not influenced music but by the older people around him. It's sad that people actually think this is funny.

Our future...This is something great to look forward to in our society

We glorify and sell clips of kids fighting in the street.

Not cool...

On a lighter note.

Harlemite's Word of the day-Nihilism(noun)1.total rejection of value statements or moral judgements. 2. absolute destructiveness toward the world at large and oneself.

Junior's act of nihilism really came out when he robbed all of the elderly people in the neighborhood and spent the money on drugs that he ended up overdosing on.
